2009 Christmas Gift Exchange
Dec 27th
We exchanged gifts that had to be under 5 dollars. There was lots of candy, a few toys and Boy Scout gear like knives and compasses. You could either steal someone else’s gift or pick out a new one. 27 scouts participated and we all had a great time.
2009 Spring Camporee
May 5th
At the 2009 Spring Camporee, almost everyone went. On Friday evening, we all picked tents and ate dinner. After that, everyone split into their stations, and set the station up. While they were there, everyone cleared up the rules and went over procedures. The next day, after breakfast, everyone worked at their stations non-stop all morning after the flag ceremony. After lunch, the fire station came and did a mock emergency. After that cool display, everyone worked for a while longer, and then was done. Everyone went back to their campsites to wait until dinner. After dinner we had a campfire and everyone went to bed. The next morning, everyone went to the church service then cleaned up the campsites and then we left for the church.
New Scout Campout
Apr 4th
At the Big Bone Lick campout, many boys went including the new scouts. At this campout, the older scouts taught skills to the younger scouts and both had a great time. Some of the things that were taught were fire safety and ax safety. In the afternoon on Saturday everyone went on a hike to see bison. This year we actually saw them unlike last year’s muddy hike. After the muddy hike, we all went back to start cooking diner. The evening was storm less until about half-way through the campfire. That’s when the rain hit. We all went to bed early, but everyone needed the extra rest. In the morning, after breakfast, we all packed up the soggy gear and headed out. Though some parts were hard and others wet, all in all everyone had a great time.
Game Lock-in at LOL Church
Mar 8th
Every year, troop 947 has a game lock-in at the church. This year we had 20-30 boys and about ten parents attend. At the lock-in, most boys stayed up all night and played games. They played both board games and video games like Risk, Halo, and Guitar Hero. At around ten o’ clock, everyone ordered pizza, and took a break from the action. The people that went to sleep did that at around one or two in the morning, while the others kept playing. When it was time to leave, everyone was tired but everyone still had a smile. All that went, parents included, had a great time.
Mercy Healthplex Lock-In
Jan 10th
At the Mercy Healthplex lock-in, all of the 40 scouts and 8-10 adults that went had a blast. At the Healthplex, most scouts completed their yearly swim test to be ready for summer camp. There were also a lot of other cool things to do. Mercy Healthplex has racquetball courts and a basketball court. On the lower level, there are about 8 tennis courts. There is also plenty of room upstairs for people to play board games and cards. This activity is one of the scouts’ favorites, and everyone has fun there. This is an annual event, so anyone joining the troop would get to go.

Center Of Science and Industry
Dec 13th
Twenty two scouts went on the Center Of Science and Industry (COSI) day trip in Columbus. Everyone who went did a huge variety of fun activities. A lot of scouts rode the unicycle. In the Gadgets exhibits, a lot of scouts built things from spare parts. We also watched a movie about a dedicated climber who conquered the Alps. The COSI trip was one of the scouts’ favorite trips. This is an annual event, so everyone joining the troop would get to go.
